A 64-year-old Staten Island Island woman with a history of violence and drug arrests was arraigned Simday on charges she fatally stabbed an acquaintance repeatedly with a screwdriver, authorities said.
Ruth Wade, who was known in drug circles as "Grandma," was living with the victim and his wife in their Stapleton apartment after she was evicted from her own place, prosecutors said.
At some point last Thursday, she had a heated argument with the couple and plunged a screwdriver into Henry Showard's chest and back, killing him. ...

[Japan] Japanese Police Seek Knife, Dagger Ban After Attack, Kyodo Says - Wednesday, July 23, 2008
July 18 (Bloomberg) -- Japan's National Police Agency is seeking a ban on double-edged knives, including daggers, after a stabbing spree left seven dead and 10 injured in a major Tokyo shopping district last month, Kyodo English News reported.
The agency will propose changes in the 1958 Firearm and Sword Control Law in the next session of parliament, Kyodo said, citing unidentified police officials. The bill will also strengthen measures against suspected stalkers, the report said. ...

Two lawyers have offered to defend Beijing man Yang Jia, who has been charged with the murders of six policemen and injuring another four in a knife attack in Shanghai two weeks ago.
Yang's father reached an agreement with Beijing Xiongzhi Law Firm on Saturday, entrusting two of its lawyers to defend Yang. But the arrangement was yet to be confirmed by Yang himself, said Xiong Liesuo, one of the lawyers.
Yang, 28, who allegedly attacked police in Zhabei District of Shanghai on July 1, is being prosecuted by the Shanghai Municipal People's Procuratorate.

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego police searched Tuesday for a knife-wielding man who slashed the forehead of a 19-year-old as he exited a liquor store in Logan Heights.

[MN] Son faces charges for knife attack on his father - Wednesday, July 16, 2008
An 18-year-old man attacked his father with a knife Wednesday when the man took the TV remote control away and refused to give it back to his son, police said.
Jeffrey Dennis Miller was arrested and referred to the Winona County Attorney’s Office for charges of domestic assault and assault with a dangerous weapon.
Police were dispatched to the Westgate Motel at 1501 Service Drive at about 5 p.m., Wednesday on a report of a father and son fighting. Upon arrival, Miller admitted he wasn’t taking his medication for attention deficit disorder, and it made it difficult for him to control his anger, according to the police report. Police said Miller grabbed a serrated knife and swung at his 57-year-old father, cutting him on the arm and leg. The father suffered only a couple scratches, Winona Police Sgt. Chris Nelson said. ...

[UK] Knife crime claims 60 victims a day - Sunday, July 13, 2008
The Sunday Telegraph has obtained data from 33 of the 43 forces in England and Wales, covering more than four-fifths of the population. The figures show that 20,803 serious knife crimes were recorded in the year to March, or 56 per day.
Allowing for forces that did not provide figures, the nationwide total is expected to be about 25,000. If Scotland and Northern Ireland attacks were included, it would be even higher.
The count includes only murders, stabbings where blood is spilt, and knife-point muggings. If less-serious crimes such as threats or illegal possession were included, the figures would be much higher. ...

WORCESTER— A Sept. 15 trial date has been set in Worcester Superior Court for a 24-year-old man accused of assaulting a Southbridge woman with a knife in her bedroom after breaking into her home.
Deric Allen of 221 Everett St., Southbridge, is being held in lieu of $500,000 cash bail on charges of armed burglary, assault with intent to rape, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in the case. Downing Street is examining plans for a fundamental overhaul of knife and gun laws amid claims that the current legislation is a “convoluted mess” which even police officers struggle to understand.

Prosecutors yesterday charged a 22-year-old man in connection with two separate knife attacks in Kalihi late Tuesday night.

RACINE — A 45-year-old man received serious stabbing and slashing wounds during an fight late Friday night in the 1200 block of Center Street, city police said.
Bernard Burns of Racine was taken to Wheaton Franciscan All Saints hospital, 3801 Spring St., after the attack that was reported at 10:40 p.m. Police said Burns suffered a partially severed ear and several stab wounds to the forearm. A longtime salesman at Battlefield Ford on U.S. 250 in the Pantops area suffered numerous cuts in a knife attack Wednesday morning, allegedly at the hands of a former co-worker.
The 59-year-old victim, whose name was not available, was sitting in his office at about 9:30 a.m. when the attacker entered, according to dealership General Manager Shawn Fanan, who was told what happened by employees who witnessed the attack.

ELLSWORTH — A former Bar Harbor man will spend four years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to an elevated aggravated assault charge for stabbing a female friend in April of 2007.
Zenith “Zee” Cote, 62, entered the guilty plea in Hancock County Superior Court. Justice William Anderson sentenced Mr. Cote to 12 years in prison, with all but four years suspended. Mr. Cote will have to serve four years probation upon his release.
Mr. Cote pleaded guilty to attacking 41-year-old Lisa Curtis of Bar Harbor and stabbing her with a knife on April 21 of last year. Ms. Curtis suffered a punctured lung and intestine in the attack. The elevated aggravated assault charge is the equivalent of attempted murder. ...

A Canyon Country man was arrested Thursday afternoon after stabbing a 17-year old male in Stevenson Ranch in a heated argument over a girl.
The incident occurred outside of a Starbucks in the Westridge Shopping Center at the corner of The Old Road and Valencia Boulevard in Stevenson Ranch.
