Welcome to KnifeLawsOnline.com! My goal in putting together this website is to help publish and disseminate information related to knife laws, city, town, and county knife ordinances, and news of general interest to knife enthusiasts and those who carry knives on a regular (or not so regular) basis.
Whether you carry a knife daily, or only on occasion, knowing what knives are legal to carry, or even possess, in the state (and city/town/county) you're in, is important if you're interested in avoiding unwanted first-hand experiences with our criminal justice system. This is particularly true if you're traveling across state lines, whether on business or pleasure, as the knife laws in the state you're visiting may vary greatly from your home state's laws.
A recent article in the New York Times, for example, notes that NYPD officers "stopped 508,540 individuals on New York City streets last year — an average of 1,393 stops per day — often searching them for illegal weapons." (N.Y. Times, Feb 3, 2007, available at nytimes.com) Travelers to New York City unaware of the requirements of NYC knife ordinances can (and have) easily fall prey to NYC's aggressive enforcement climate with regards to knife carry in the Big Apple.
On this site you will hopefully find at least some information that will help you better understand the many different levels of knife regulation that exist throughout our great Nation. Stay sharp, and stay safe!
